Your gloom be as the noon day!

“If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.” (Isa. 58:10 ESV)

The cure for gloom and depression

Sometimes I feel gloomy, and it can simply be the result of not getting enough sunlight. This condition was especially true when I lived in Alaska, where we experienced long winter nights with very short days and little sunlight. However, there are times when other factors trigger gloominess, which we can label as depression. When that happens to me, it usually helps to get some fresh air, some exercise, and apply positive input, such as reaching out with help of some kind towards somebody else with problems. This shifts my focus from my own depression to the needs of others. That’s what our promise verse at the top says we should do about gloominess. “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.” Wow! What a wonderful promise!

Therefore

Helping others will return to you in good measure!

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 ESV)
