Everlasting Father

Names of God

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isa. 9:6)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Everlasting Father.

Everlasting Father – Father Forever

The Hebrew word translated “everlasting” means “in perpetuity” or “without end.” The next verse says of the Messiah, “Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end” (Isa. 9:7). In other words He is the father of time and eternity, the architect of the ages.

He inhabits eternity

“For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’” (ISA. 57:15)

His name is eternal

“His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed.” (Psalm 72:17)

Deliverer

Names of God

“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thes. 1:10 KJV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Deliverer.

Jesus — Deliverer

Jesus offers deliverance from mankind’s greatest peril—sin, evil, death and judgment.

·      He was delivered up for our sins

“He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” (Rom. 4:25 ESV)

·      He delivered us from this present evil age

“Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:” Gal. 1:4 KJV)

·      He delivered us from the power of Satan’s reign

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,” (Col. 1:13)

He delivered us from the “wrath to come”

“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thess. 1:10 KJV)

Therefore

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2 ESV)

Chief Cornerstone

Names of God

“The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22 NKJV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Chief Cornerstone.

Jesus is the foundation of His church

A cornerstone is often used to describe Jesus in the Bible and the reason for that is because Jesus is the foundation and the most important part of building His Church.

“This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’” (Acts 4:11)

Therefore

Jesus Christ, Himself, is our Chief Cornerstone.

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” (Eph. 2:19-22)

Creator

Names of God

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Gen. 1:1)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Creator.

Creator — gives life to all things

“You alone are the LORD. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all things, and the host of heaven worships You.” (Neh. 9:6)

“Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:3)

“He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.” (John 1:10)

Therefore

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Col. 1:16 NIV)

Bridegroom

Names of God

“And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.” (Matt. 9:15 ESV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Bridegroom.

The Bridegroom is Jesus

The word bridegroom is used often in the Bible as a metaphor for God, specifically for Jesus Christ.

The Bride is the Church

The church is likened to a bride with Christ as her bridegroom. The church, the Bride of Christ, is the entire body of believers throughout the ages. All who have trusted the Lord and received salvation by grace through faith are collectively His Bride. This analogy exists in several New Testament passages. Paul gives believers instructions about marriage, saying, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Eph. 5:25). Paul also refers to the church as a virgin waiting for her bridegroom (2 Cor. 11:2) and uses the relationship between Christ and the church as an example of the importance of wives’ submission to their husbands (Eph. 5:24).

Therefore

We await for the Groom to come, and to join the “wedding supper of the Lamb” (Rev. 19:7) when we, as members of the Church, will live forever with Jesus.

“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev. 21:2)

“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” (Rev. 22:17)

Beloved Son of God

Names of God

“And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matt. 3.17 NKJV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Beloved Son of God.

Beloved Son of God - Jesus

“Here is My Servant, whom I have chosen, My beloved, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations.” (Matt. 12:18)

“While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!’” (Matt. 17:5)

Therefore

“Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: ‘This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!’” (Mark 9:7)

Bread of Life

Names of God

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35 NIV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Bread of Life.

Jesus wanted the people to comprehend who he was

“The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” (John 6:33; NLT)

Therefore

“When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ?” (1 Cor. 10:16 NLT)

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh." (John 6:51)

Authority - Over Heaven and earth

Names of God

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matt. 28:18 NKJV)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Authority.

Authority — over heaven and earth

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isa. 9:6)

“All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.” (Matt. 11:27)

“By me kings reign, and rulers enact just laws;” (Prov. 8:15)

“and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!” (Luke 1:33)

Therefore

“Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Mark. 16:14-18)

Alpha and Omega – First and Last

Names of God

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev. 1:8)

God has many names and titles in the Bible. Each one tells us something important about Him—His character and how He relates to us. And how we must relate to Him. Here is another one of His many Names, which is Alpha and Omega.

Alpha and Omega - First and Last

“Thus says the LORD, the King and Redeemer of Israel, the LORD of Hosts: “I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God but Me.” (Isa. 44:6)

Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega

“These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God's creation.” (Rev. 3:14)

“These are the words of the First and the Last, who died and returned to life.” (Rev. 2:8)

Jesus, as the Alpha and Omega, is the first and last in so many ways. He is found in the first verse of Genesis and in the last verse of Revelation. He is the first and last, the all in all of salvation, from the justification before God to the final sanctification of His people. He is the “author and finisher” of our faith (Heb. 12:2). He is the totality, the sum and substance of the Scriptures, both of the Law and of the Gospel (John 1:1,14). He is the fulfilling end of the Law (Matt. 5:17), and He is the beginning subject matter of the gospel of grace through faith, not of works (Eph. 2:8-9).

“When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. But He placed His right hand on me and said, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last,” (Rev. 1:17)

Therefore

Make everything you do into an alpha and omega sandwich. How do you do that?

·      Alpha: Seek Him first at the beginning of everything you do. (Matt. 6:33)

·      Omega: Finish well for Him everything you you. (2 Cor. 8:5 & 2 Tim. 4:7)

And He will help you with it

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 1:6)

“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” (1 Thess. 5:24)
