Promised benefits of meditating on God's Word
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season. And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”(Psalms 1:1-3 ESV)
Cows, camels and sheep, oh my!
Cows are amazing animals! Like camels and sheep, they process their food by chewing their cuds. They swallow their food and bring it up repeatedly and chew on it all day long. This enables them to extract everything of nutritional value from what has been swallowed. This process is similar to meditation. You start by getting the Word of God into your head. You then think about it and dwell on it deeply. You chew on it, so to speak, to receive many wonderful benefits from it. Our promise verse for today says it very well. “And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season. And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. These are wonderful benefits, indeed!
Pleasing in God's sight
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”(Psalm 19:14 NIV)
“May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD.”(Psalm 104:34 NIV)
Dwell on these things
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”(Phil. 4:8 ESV)
