Baptism
“One Lord, one faith, one baptism…” (Eph. 4:5 ESV)
Not long after receiving Christ as my personal savior I was baptized. I had read the Scriptures about being baptized and wanted to be obedient to God’s Word regarding the matter.
The baptism of Jesus
“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.” (Matt. 3:16 ESV)
All were baptized
“Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21-22 ESV)
Baptizing in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt. 28:19 ESV)
We were buried with Him in Baptism
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (Rom. 6:4 ESV)
You were raised with him through faith
“Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.” (Col. 2:12-13 ESV)
