When clothing yourself with righteousness

IMG_2465.jpeg

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor. 5:21 ESV)

Seek God’s righteousness first

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matt. 6:33 ESV)

Covered with His robes of righteousness

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” (Isa. 61:10 ESV)

Put on righteousness

“I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.” (Job 29:14 ESV)

Faith is counted as righteousness

“And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness…” (Rom. 4:5 ESV)

Therefore

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24 ESV)

“And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—“ (Phil. 3:9 ESV)

Quotes:

“Righteousness has to do with the vertical standard that God gives us to please Him. Justice has to do with the horizontal expression of that righteous standard in the lives of others.” - Tony Evans

“When I believe in Jesus, I am united to Christ. Therefore, what he did and achieved becomes mine by this union through faith alone. His righteous life is imputed to me. What Christ achieved is counted as mine.” - John Piper
