His yoke is easy and burden is light!
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matt. 11:29 NIV)
A yoke is a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plow or cart that they are to pull. In the above passage Jesus is talking about how you can come to Him when you are weary and burdened through many kinds of bondages and He will help bear your load provide needed rest to your soul.
The requirements of the Law are beyond our capacity
In other passages the Paul and Peter talk about the yoke of bondage that the Law brings, the yoke that no one can carry.
“Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?” (Acts 15:10)
With Jesus, the yoke is light for those who come to Him, because of what He has done for us on the cross
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mt 11:28-30)
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Gal. 5:1)
It all comes down to this
“If the Son therefore shall set you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
