Second Chances

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 NIV)

The Mulligan

The “Mulligan,” a golf term originating in the 1920’s, is widely used today to describe any “do-over” or second chance after initial failure. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to use Mulligans, or do-overs, today to correct serious mistakes? But there are no Mulligans or do-overs for most mistakes. The good news of the gospel, however, is a different story. We get a complete do-over regarding sin! Jesus paid for it with His very own blood.

“Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” (2 Peter 1:18-19 ESV)

According to the riches of His grace

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” (Eph. 1:7 ESV)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9 ESV)
